A FIGHTING CHANCE
| Description | Capital defense investigation is a multifaceted undertaking. A Fighting Chance directly serves indigent capital defendants in Louisiana by immediate intervention, thorough canvassing of witnesses, in-depth family and social histories, research regarding psychiatric and developmental disabilities, records collection, expert consultation and lawyer preparation, as well as outreach in the legal community to promote awareness of the importance of factual investigation. We hope to reach out to the defendants, their loved ones, and the attorneys representing them, and provide the facts needed for a meaningful defense. We provide a desperately needed service to clients, we train other investigators, and we acculturate lawyers and judges to the idea that the investigation of facts is as important, or more, than their presentation in court. A Fighting Chance seeks to shape expectations in Louisiana, to the point where a prompt and thorough defense investigation becomes the norm. |
